"Growing In Faith"

History

Rock Springs United Methodist Church was first organized in the fall of 1866 with 15 charter members and was known as Rock Springs Methodist Episcopal Church.  The historic chapel that currently exists was built in 1882 and had a value of $1500 in 1911.  Prior to 1882, services had been held in an older building, then the property of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.

By 1934, Rock Springs church was on a circuit of five churches, the other four being El Bethel, Shiloh, Martin’s Chapel, and McKendree.  Two of these churches eventually closed, but Rock Springs UMC continued to grow over the years.  The church built a parsonage and received its first full-time minister in 1986, and the current sanctuary was built in 1999.
