Our modern world is a place of many challenges. The complexity of our lives: our time
commitments, the needs of our families, our jobs, our financial obligations --- so many
needs pull on us and demand our attention and energies. Too often, we just end up having
nothing left to give. We don’t even want to think about searching for meaning and
fulfillment in our exhausted existence. We can’t work such luxuries as a search for
meaning into our day-runners or palm pilots.
In a world of abundance and surplus, in a booming economy and state-of-the-art
technology, we might find ourselves dying of thirst. In the midst of lives of plenty, we
find ourselves with souls parched and thirsty – with no idea where to search for even
a sip of cool water to quench our thirst – a thirst for ultimate and spiritual
meaning. The only source of that quenching water is Jesus Christ.
"Everyone who drinks of this [earthly] water will be thirsty again, but those who
drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give
will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life."
